The Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr Aminu Maida, has said that the commission would leverage data to make informed decisions.
Dr Maida statedcutiveduring an interactive session between the NCC and the media stakeholders in Abuja on Tuesday, noting that the commission would employ data-centric and cost cutting messures in her decision making process.
According to the EVC, the world is in a digital age, hence necessitating the need to reduce subjectiveness and take the right decisions that will improve the industry for consumers and the telecom providers.
“You are going to see a change in the way we make decisions, we are going to be very data-driven. All our decisions are going to be backed up by data as much as possible.
“We want to reduce subjectiveness and take the right decisions that will improve the industry.
Maida explained that while consumers consumers are looking for total Quality of Experience (QoE), providers are looking for how to maximise profit, as such there would be a need to strike a balance for both consumers and providers to be able to maximise profit.
“We will be leveraging data to be able to empower consumers to make the right choice so that we can move away from the world where we have multiple SIM devices.
“Rather than multiple devices and SIM cards, we are looking at a situation where consumers will only have one SIM card and one device.
“We are also going to be working with our licensees on data tariff, speed and coverage. We are going to be working with our licensees to see how tariff can be simpler and more transparent,” Maida said.
Maida therefore affirm that the commission would henceforth be engaging in continued awareness and enlightenment campaigns to further enhance consumers understand on their consumption of telecoms services.
“Consumers buy phones with stronger data tolerance which produces better quality pictures, videos and all, but they fail to realise that these habits increase their consumption of telecoms services,” explained Maida.
